Warhol and Basquiat - Identity, Biography and Fame

Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat famous artists,  their art was interesting, their work was different from each other. Basquiat used to paint different materials, windows, doors, and between others. When Warhol used different material such as ink, watercolor and spray paint or more as photographic. Basquiat ran away from home when he was 17, his career started based on graffiti. When his signed his art he was known as “Samo” and that’s when he became famous anonymous. 

Comparing Warhol and Basquiat life, both of them had a hard childhood. For example due Warhol disorder they kept him home from school and Basquiat had a car incident where he suffered broken arm among many other internal injuries once his parents divorced, his mother was put into the mental hospital . However, since they were young, they showed an interested in art, for example, since Basquiat was 4-year-old he loved drawing. When Warhol was sick in bed his mother gave him a few drawing lessons and it became his favorite pastime. He (Warhol) was also a big fan of movies. Even they come from a different background they had their parents supporting them.

For Basquiat, he become famous he didn’t know how to handle that fame, I guess he wanted to create paint on what he was inspired but once he became more knowing in the art world, he was caring a lot of pression on his shoulders that made him start using substances, even though he uses it before when he was partying. I believe Warhol knew how to deal with the fame than Basquiat, as he was more responsible in that way.

When Warhol passed away it was hard for Basquiat because at some point there were inseparable. They needed each other, because they inspired each other when they decided to do art together Basquiat felt like it was his fault due that Warhol didn’t sell any painting during that year, he (Basquiat) closet himself for a while as he felt guilty. But Warhol was like father to Basquiat because he took care of Basquiat.

I believe the Art World has many talented artists, but they don't know yet.

Often people are superficial as “they judge a book by its cover” because the way they see you it’s the way you’ll be treat.

- “Popular culture has influenced how we think and feel, what we see and desire.” (pg 94)

This sentence I found it really powerful because it’s true culture and religion influenced us on how we should act outside, the way we should behind, always think about what other would think about ourselves.
