Amy Sherald

“Handsome,” from 2019.

Quote:

  1. “Using coded items of clothing to make such categorizations-more visible also makes them a site for playful resistance.” (page 128)

  2. “Even though we cannot know how the oTher sees us, nonetheless, we are consumed with trying to control it” ( Page 142)

A photo that I came across that Amy Sherald created was “Handsome”.  She created this photo in 2019.   This photo explains that meaning that good looks are not as important as good deeds. “this photo is trying to explain is that life is not all about the way you dress and the way you look.  In reality what looks better then presentation is the work you put in for the community or the great morals that you do that comes from the bottom of your heart.  I choose this photo because I feel like I could relate to this.  I feel like this happens in the world right now because people are judging people by the way they are dressing and the way you look nowadays.
