Quotes:
“If you buy a painting you also buy the look of the things it represents.”
“The way in which each sees the other confirms his own view of himself.”
When it came to creating this photo I chose the theme race and equality. The reason I choose this theme is because across the country African Americans are being murdered by the police. African Americans have been facing this attack for decades and instead of this situation getting better, it has gotten worse. I feel like this can connect to one of the artists that we used in class name Mickalene Thomas. She is an African American artist that is from New Jersey. “ Thomas is best known for her richly textured, rhinestone-encrusted paintings of African-American women and bright, collaged interiors.
Thomas artwork is working in the midst of coming up with a discussion on the underrepresentation and misrepresentation of African American bodies. Thomas is honestly trying to raise the visibility of women of color to be another topic in conversation. I believe that there aren’t that many African American portraits around or even African American artists. It’s good that Thomas is doing that because like she said she wants African Americans to be known in the art world.
When it comes to performance and the representation of the performance. I believe it starts off by how you introduce yourself. You will soon to realize that’s how the performance is going to play out. If you start off your performance strong and come with energy then your performance is going to be good. One of my quotes that I used in my recent pieces of artwork is “There is power in looking” What this quote means is that the first thing you're going to do when you look at a portrait is analyze it. The only way that you can analyze it is by looking at it.
